First Baptist Hurst is seeking to be a part of what God is doing all around the world. Our missions strategy is to simultaneously involve the church in reaching our community (Jerusalem), state (Judea), continent (Samaria), and the world (Ends of the Earth) through prayer, teaching, training, giving, and going. One of the last commands Jesus gave was to go into the nations to make disciples, baptizing and teaching them how to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). Just before Jesus left the earth He gave His disciples the method to follow in Acts 1:8.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
It is our passion to fulfill this command by sending mission teams and supporting mission efforts on all continents of the world, starting right here in North America. We seek to work in partnership with other missions, pastors, churches, missionaries, and organizations that are seeking to reach the world, with the end being to make disciples in all the earth. We believe everyone can have a part in this missions strategy in at least one of the following ways: praying, giving, learning, or going. Certainly the vast majority of our congregation can participate in all of these ways, and all in at least one. When we get God's vision for the world on our hearts, our hearts will be changed forever.
There are several ministry opportunities right here in the DFW area to touch lives. Below is a list of what our church is involved in.
First Hurst is involved in different ministries within the state of Texas. It might be building a parsonage in Marathon, Texas, or helping victims of a natural disaster. There are a variety of opportunities for you to serve.
Our two key focal point for Samaria missions are Fort Yates, North Dakota, and Piedras Negras, Mexico.
We usually take two trips to North Dakota each year. The first is in early June, when we host two Vacation Bible Schools (Fort Yates & Cannon Ball). Our other trip to North Dakota is usually in early to mid August, when the primary goal is to host an Operation Back to School at the elementary school in Fort Yates. We enjoy building relationships with the faculty, and we continue to strive to find ways to minister to this area.
Iglesia Bautista La Trinidad De Piedras Negras is the church we team up with in Mexico. This church also has a school serving pre-k through 12th grade.
You can learn more about each of these ministries through the links below.
For the security of missionaries serving in these areas, we are able to share limited details. We team up with missionaries in Africa and Russia, and we will soon begin a new ministry partnership in Chile in 2011.
