April, 2012 Trip Updates

April 26, 11:30am -- Work on the rehab house is still in progress. The siding is finally looking like some work has been done. Our team is building relationships and meeting so many new people. It has been an amazing trip so far. Keep the team in your prayers as they finish up construction on the rehab house and wrap up the week. They will be home Saturday.

April 23, 8:30pm -- They had a totally different idea of how to install the siding. Anatole came and showed us the proper way to put it up. We were very gracious and gladly removed it all and started over. Our translator Alex is not a Christian, and I had the opportunity to talk to him and witness to him today. We started with trying to get to work with only the intentions of completing the job no matter the cost, but Anatole reminded us to take time to fellowship as well. Things are going well, but we don't have internet to forward pictures right now. I am taking lots of them. I can feel God working.  --Rob

We just finished our apartment church service and have internet service here. Our church has been talking about Secret Church and Radical. There are questions asked like, "Would you go to church if it was not pretty or comfortable?" Here, they do not have to be secretive; however, they choose to meet and fellowship in an apartment. It was very enjoyable and personable. It allows for a more intimate environment, much like our small tables in class. People seem more willing to talk due to this small environment. It has been nice to get the opportunity to worship with them, and we look forward to getting more work done in the morning. God bless.

April 21, 12:30pm -- We have had a great first day. Brad told us they prefered the siding to be up first, so that is where we started. We got a good start on it. Before dinner, we got to hear about each of the men here and how God is working in their lives. We had a great dinner and are preparing for bed. God bless to all.

April 20, 5pm -- Our team is in Russia! They had a chance to spend a few hours in Frankfurt before heading to Perm. Keep the guys in your prayers!

Missions Partnership

Brad and Jeanine Horne are International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries to Russia. Brad serves as the Strategy Coordinator for the city of Perm, with a population of one million. Jeanine serves as a support to Brad in the ministry and stays busy taking care of and homeschooling their 4 daughters: Sarah, Emily, Alyssa, and Jenna.

Brad & Jeanine concentrate on fulfilling the Great Commission by working with young adults and introducing them to God's Word. They have found that by reading the Bible with people God's Spirit is able to transform the hearts of those who are willing. The Hornes also reach out to nonbelievers through various types of evangelizations, outreaches, and Bible studies. FBC Hurst is helping to make a difference by sending short-term volunteers to work alongside the Hornes to help reach the lost.

Currently, Perm has only 4 Baptist churches, and 99% of the population does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

If you feel the Lord leading you to serve in Perm, there is more than one way you can get ivolved:

ENGLISH/AMERICAN CULTURE CAMPS

It's very common for Russian university students to attend English camps over their summer break. We use a group of volunteers willing to share their culture and their faith in Christ in 3-4 day camps directed by Brad Horne.

CONSTRUCTION WORK

FBC Hurst is currently helping to make improvements to a Men's Rehabilitation Home. We were introduced to the rehab facility and the family who runs it through Brad Horne. We use simple handyman abilities and a willingness to share God's Word to better the lives of the men currently being treated.

DISCIPLESHIP TRIPS

These trips are geared toward men willing to share their faith and Biblical knowledge with young Russian men seeking a deeper connection with Christ. These trips involve some outdoor adventure opportunities as well as time spent delving deeper into God's Word.
