The Deacon Ministry at First Baptist Hurst exists to:

  • Serve the the fellowship of believers of First Baptist Hurst
  • Visit all first-time adults who have been guests during our morning worship services or LIFE Connection Bible Studies (Deacon Visitation Ministry)
  • Meet the ongoing needs of the widows in our church through the Deacon Widow Ministry


Qualifications for Deacons of First Baptist Hurst

  • Active membership in this church for at least six months. I Timothy 3:10
  • One who makes his family a priority. I Timothy 3:12
  • One who realizes that being a deacon is a place of service and not necessarily a place of honor and that the place given a deacon in the church is a place of service beyond the call of ordinary Christian responsibility. Act. 6:2,3
  • Willingness to take a Christian stand on moral issues in home, civic and community life. I Timothy 3:9
  • One who has a proven record of service. I Timothy 3:13
  • One who believes that tithes and offerings are God’s plan for the support of the church. One who is a tither and who would promote and encourage tithing at all times. Malachi 3:10; Matthew 23:23; I Corinthians 16:2; II Corinthians 9:6-8, I Timothy 3:8
  • One who would support and promote the total church program by his presence and participation at the regular services unless providentially hindered. Hebrews 10:25
  • One who believes the fundamental truths of the Bible...the Virgin Birth, the sacrificial, atoning death and resurrection of Christ, His literal coming again. I Timothy 3:9
  • One who realizes that a deacon ought to be a spiritual example with an understanding heart. He is first and foremost a peacemaker. In the event of any misunderstanding between himself and another member, another deacon, or the pastor, he would take the initiative to make things right. Matthew 5:22-23; 18:15-17; Galatians 6:1
  • Husband of only one wife who will be a spiritual support to her husband. I Tim. 3:11-12
  • One who makes a conscious effort to win the lost to Christ. Acts 1:8, 6:7
  • One who is filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom. Acts 6:3
